Organiser

Health Workers Union (HWU) · Australia

Make a real difference in the lives of health workers as an Organiser  at the Health Workers Union (HWU).

The HWU represents health workers across Victoria — from hospitals and aged care to disability and pathology. We fight for fair pay, safe conditions and respect at work, and our Organisers are at the heart of building strong, active and organised workplaces.

We are seeking candidates  from across Country Victoria  to join our regional organising team. The successful applicant will be based in regional Victoria, with their organising area determined according to their location and the needs of the Union.

This is a  frontline, workplace-based role  focused on recruiting members, developing delegates and workplace leaders, supporting members to take collective action and growing the strength of the Union across regional Victoria.

You’ll spend much of your time visiting workplaces — talking with health workers, holding meetings, identifying workplace issues, recruiting members and supporting delegates to organise their colleagues. You’ll manage a geographic organising area while working as part of a broader statewide organising and campaigns team to build membership, participation and power.

Mobilise members around union campaigns, bargaining and industrial action

Maintain accurate workplace, membership and organising records in the Union’s CRM

Work collaboratively with organisers, industrial staff and campaign staff to deliver Union priorities

Passionate about developing other people and building strong workplace leadership

Organised and able to manage your own schedule, priorities and workplace plan

Comfortable working independently while contributing to a broader team

Able to identify workplace problems and work with members to develop practical solutions

Motivated by targets and able to work systematically toward membership and organising goals

Comfortable learning and using enterprise agreements, awards and workplace laws
